The word “girlboss” is pretty new to me. However, I think it showed up now because it’s really important to see women in business! And when we’re talking about women who are making their mark as business leaders in THIS world, the best part of the story is how they got there!
First off, it’s hard to even call yourself a…girlboss? See, I’m not used to it even as a business-owning woman! The “owning” should make me the boss, right? But it always feels a little wrong. Maybe that’s because I don’t feel like I’ve “made it” yet. Maybe I could use some more confidence in my skills. Maybe it’s because we call even these powerful women GIRLS! It’s not easy to find your confidence and power as a “girl” in a “man’s world.” I think it might ALWAYS feel a little unsteady!
One of my graphic tee designs has a lot to do with this:
“She rides into the wind with no fear of the future.”
That may be the honest-to-God truth for some women, but I know I’d be lying if I said I never felt scared making the jump into designing! But a lot of times in business, you have to pretend like nothing scares you. You have to make people believe you have no fear of the future. THAT’S business!
Now, all that said, here’s what I really think about this phrase, and how we can relate to it. It’s a sneaky piece: “She rides into the wind.”
Honestly, fear or no fear, the riding is the real trick. I wouldn’t have my very own graphic tee business if I hadn’t spurred my horse! Whatever happed before, and whatever has happened since, I rode into the wind. Women everywhere are riding into the wind, no matter what the future may hold.
